Analysis of Total Greek Yoghurt Advert
Regional Identity
Regional identity is the notion that part of a
person's identity is rooted not only in the country but also in the region they
live in. For example in this TV advert the regional identity is a Greek farm
set in 1926. The fields and mountains and the old fashioned stonewalls around
the boy’s house show that they live away from the city, that there in a small
village and they live on a farm. There doesn't seem to be a lot of people
around that links to the fact that it’s a small village in Greece. They don't
have any technology apart from at the end of the clip when the women picks up a
ringing phone, which is there to show that the advert is actually not set in
1926 but in present day however everything else hasn't changed, just like the
Greek Yoghurt.
The fact that the boy’s family only has one cow
shows that they don't rely on supermarkets and that they only supply themselves
with milk. The cow also seems to be like a pet in this advert because the boy
seems to have a good relationship with the cow and the cow does what the boy
says or gestures. Also the other animal in the advert is a donkey, which is
being ridden by a man down on a dusty road. This links to the fact that the people,
which live around the area, don't have
cars and are not in a rush because they live in the country. Also there are a
herd of sheep being lead down a dirt road and this also shows the regional
identity because there not being transported by a lorry there doing it the old
fashioned (country) way.
All the shots show that Greece is hot because the
people have very dark brown hair and the roads are dusty. The people’s cloths
are all wearing dusty, baggy cloths and this correlates with it being at hot
place. In the video there is a women beating a rug and hanging out washing
which links to the fact that the region must be a hot place and that there
are no washing machines or tumble dryer.
Shot
types
First in
the clip is an establishing shot to show the viewer where the advert takes
place. This moves on to a shot reverse shot of a boy the cow then the boy
again. A medium shot shows the boy letting the cow out of the field, and then
there is a close up of the boy’s face as this is happening. A master shot shows
the limit of the action as the boy runs towards a house. When the boy reaches
the house there is an over the shoulder shot of a woman looking at the boy the
boy is talking. This leads to a close up of the women. The boy then runs away
and the camera follows using medium and long shots. There are close ups of the
people pointing him in the right direction to find the cow. There is a long
shot at the angle looking down, showing the boy still running.
When the
boy finds the cow there’s long, medium and close up shots of the boy, the cow
and another man. After the boy takes the cow back to the field, this is also is
shown using a long, medium and close up shots of the boy and the cow. When the
boy goes into the house to sit at a table then woman gives him a bowl of Total
Greek Yoghurt while there’s a close up of the bowl. Following this there’s a
close up of the boy’s face to show the viewers that he is enjoying it. Then a
medium shot of the kitchen and then goes to a close up of the container of the
yoghurt as non-diegetic sound is in play.
Sound
Types
At first
there is some rustling of something that is natural for the scene so it is
diegetic sound but also is asynchronous because it occurs of screen. This then
leads to some upbeat guitar music that sounds Greek. As the boy starts to talk,
which is diegetic sound, the volume decreases to allow the viewers to listen to
what the boy is saying. This non-diegetic music starts to sound like it’s the beginning
of a longer piece of music and this correlates to the content of the advert
because the boy is at the beginning of a task to find the cow.
As the
boy runs the music picks up its pace to fit in with the pace of the boys run.
There is sound of a bell and because the viewer sees it, it's diegetic sound
and synchronous sound. There is sound of a man sharpening a knife and a woman
hitting a rug and both are diegetic sound.
As the
boy finds the cow the music slows in pace to represent that the boy has
finished his task and is now walking home. The phone rings when the boy is back
and this shows diegetic sound because the viewer sees the phone. At the end
there is non-diegetic sound because there is a voice being played over the clip, which doesn’t occur naturally on screen.
Editing
All
through the advert a simply cut is used to go to the next scene or clip.
At the beginning
the boy and the cow seem to be looking at each other by the eye line match.
This shows that the boy looking in the direction of the cow and the cow looking
in the direction of the boy. When the boy is running to talk to his mum and
also running to find the cow the next shot to the first always shows the boy
running so action match is used to make the scene flow. The boy is shown leading
the cow around the corner and the next shot is the boy round the corner with
the cow (action match).
When the
boy is talking to his mother he is looking up because he is lower than she is
and the women is shown looking down to correlate with what the boy is doing
(eye line match).
Mise-en-scène
Mise-en-scène is an arrangement of scenery and properties to represent the place where a play or movie is enacted. All throughout the advert the scenery, clothing and their language shows mise-en-scène. The clothing the people are wearing link to the setting because the setting is a hot, dry place and they are wearing baggy, dusty clothing. The weather is hot and a bit windy that links to the fact that the older woman has her washing out. The man riding a donkey links to the dusty paths and the farm nearby.

Eye line match:
When Doc Martin is having a conversation with the man sitting down, the first shot shows Doc Martin looking down at the man and the next shot show the man sitting down looking up at Doc. Another example is when Doc is looking down, the next shot shows what Doc is looking at, the dog.
Action Match:
When Doc is walking down the road by the school the next shot show this also, the first shot leads into the next. Another example is when Doc Martin walks up to the door and starts to open it and the next shot is showing Doc walking though the door.

Doc Martin Clip Regional Identity
Things that imply that the regional identity is a small, country village near the sea:
- The rooms are dark so its an old fashioned styled house
- The rooms seem to have old decor
- Stray dogs wonder around the village
- The street roads are very narrow
- People seem to be walking on the road
- In the background the viewer can hear seagulls
- The houses and walls are made from an old fashioned method of stone
- The door frame are very low
- The police man isn't doing much so this implies, that where they are, there is a low crime rate.
- It was windy so near the sea
- All the people seem very friendly and welcoming to Doc Martin
- There are Cars but they are not moving which implies that they walk everywhere
- The people seem to dress in farmers clothing or walking clothing
- All the people seem to be very relaxed

Analysis of EastEnders Clip
This clip starts of with an over the shoulder shot to show an angry man, which then reverses to show the person he is talking to and to see her reaction to what the man has said. This is called a shot reverse shot. At the moment the only sound is the man talking and this is called diegetic sound because it occurs naturally in the scene. The next shot is a master shot, it shows the limit of the action. The Mise-en-scène shows that the setting is at Christmas time because of the props in the room, such as the Christmas tree and decorations. After the master shot it then moves to another over the shoulder shot while the man is in mid sentence so it runs through smoothly. While they continue to have a disagreement the shot becomes a repetitive shot reverse shot to show the quick and angered conversation. When the man tells the woman to put her coat on, the shot shows a close up of her face and as she starts to move to the other side of the man the shot changes to a medium shot. The shot reverse shot repeats between the two people to show the conversation.
The scene quickly moves to an establishing shot to show the viewer that the door has opened and
two more men have walked in the living room. The conversation starts with the first man and this is shown by a close up of his face. Then a reverse shot reverse is used to show the man he is talking to. Then man one and man two have a threatening conversation this is shown by shot reverse shot and over the shoulder shot too. The woman is shown looking from man one to man two looking upset. Inbetween the shot reverse shot there is a medium shot put in there to break up shots and to show how close they are to each-other and their threatening manner. This happens again to show all the characters in the frame.
Man one continues with his rant, we establish that the first man's name is Derek Brunning. After his voice lowers the shot is an establishing shot that shows how far Derek Brunning has pushed the men, not physically, but through aggression, which shows that Derek is asserting his authority. This is contrast to when the two men came bursting and asserting their authority. Derek Brunning is still the only man talking and shot reverse shot is still in use to show of the four characters facial expressions.A medium shot shows another argument. As the men go though the door, the settings change to what was on the other side of the living room. There's a close up of man two's face as he barks out orders showing he is in charge, then this leads to man two joining the other two men pushing Derek Brunning out the door.
As the three men struggle to get Derek Brunning out the door there is a birds eye view shot that shows them wrestling down the stairs. The steps leading out the house show that the house is in the style of a town house. There is then a medium shot showing Derek and man three walking down the stairs leading to the street. As Derek shouts out orders there's a close up of his face to show he is shouting. After there is a over the shoulder shot of the three men's shoulders and in focus is Derek walking backwards away from them. This shot shows that the three men and asserting there authority on Derek Brunning. The camera does a close up of Derek and follows as he spins around clutching his stomach. While Derek is breathing loudly the foot steps of the other men are in the background (diegetic sound).
As Derek stands up there's shot reverse shot of his face and the three men and the women standing on the top step. There is a long close up of Derek to show that he is in pain and there's something bad happening. The shot reverse shot continuous showing Derek on the floor and the brother slowing deciding to go other with Derek's son.
Finally there's a long shot showing the situation ( this shows that the house has a park in-front of it which relates to the town house) and more shot reverse shots are shown to show the reaction of the people's faces when the older brother announces Derek's dead. While this is happening there is a siren in the background noise which is called asynchronous. Before the scene has finished non-diegetic sound his used to show that its the end of the episode.

Sound Technique
Diegetic Sound: any sound that naturally occurs in the scene.
Non-diegetic Sound: sound that is not natural.
Synchronous: When the sound occurs from whats on the screen.
Asynchronous: When the sound occurs off screen.
Non-diegetic Sound: sound that is not natural.
Synchronous: When the sound occurs from whats on the screen.
Asynchronous: When the sound occurs off screen.
Doc Martin Sound
At the beginning there is a short piece of music this added piece of music is called non-diegetic sound because it is not sound that is natural to the scene. After that the clip has no sound apart from the conversation this is called diegetic sound because it is a natural sound for the setting also because the sound occurs from what is on screen its synchronous. As the water pipe burst the sound level increases because people are trying to talk over the water, the phone ringing and the dog barking. Even though the viewer hears the dog and does not see it, it is still diegetic sound. Doc Martin shouts at everyone then as he walks towards the dog the music is added in to create the feel like Doc Martin is walking towards the dog and to show that there is tension and anger as he is doing it, this also links to the camera moving towards the dog to.As Doc Martin walks with the dog along the road the music, which is non-diegetic because it has been edited in, is upbeat to go with the speed of his walk and to show the anger and frustration. When Doc is walking there also the sound of seagulls that do not appear on screen so is asynchronous. As Doc starts to talk to the policeman the music stops to allow the viewer to understand what he is saying. As Doc walks out there music starts before it goes onto the next scene to show that its a smooth transition from one scene to another.
When he walks towards the women the music starts but shortly stops to allow a conversation. The music starts again walking towards a school and when Doc Martin stops to look in, the music stops to make it clear that he has stopped. As the women in the class room see's him looking the music starts again and this helps show the tension between them. As Doc and the women are exchanging looks there is a faint sound of people talking that you do not see so this is asynchronous.

Shot Types in Doc Martin
At the beginning of the clip there is a master shot which shows the limit of the action in the first scene. When the man is talking there is a close up of his face to look at his facial expression. Then Doc Martin comes into the conversation there is a shot reverse shot where the camera flicks between the Doc and the man speaking. When there is a close up of someone the direction there facing and the direction of there eyes shows how there talking to which backs up the dialog.
When everything goes a bit crazy the camera sort of flicks to different people quickly to show that the situation is get out of hand.
After Doc leaves with the dog there is an establishing shot, to establish the location, and this leads into a long shot to a median shot to a close up as Doc Martin walks paced. These techniques are very smooth as the camera follows the action.
Shot Types
Establishing Shot (Extreme long shoot): establishing the location and where you want the viewer to look.
Master Shot: is the limit of the action.
Over the Shoulder: how they film a conversation (shot reverse shot).
Close Up: getting to know the character and ignoring the surroundings.
Extreme Close Up: to show the emotion and also an important moment in the clip.
Median close up: waist up.
Long Shot: whole body and to establish the location.

Second Thoughts on Doc Matin
At the beginning of the clip two men are fixing Doc Martins sink and are talking about a word associated to crazy. While talking, the sinks pipe burst and causes panic in the room. This causes Doc Martin to shout at the men. The Phone rings and a stray dog comes into the room, which causes more shouting. Doc tells the two men and a women what to do and then leaves with the dog. He takes the dog to the police station where he is greeted with the policeman. The policeman introduces himself but Doc shouts words that don't make sense to the policeman and walks out. He is then greeted with a women and they have a conversation where Doc only speaks when he needs to. He then walks by a school and stops to see a women in there that he has met before.
Initial Thoughts on Doc Martin
My initial thoughts on Doc Martin is that he is an antisocial man, is very blunt and rude. The clip shows him being welcomed to the town and people introducing themselves to him. His first day their seems not to have gone well because his stressed and walking fast.
